Adam Chennells

Unmarked grave Adam Chennells (1819-1877)

Adam was born 18 October 1819, the son of Joseph and Phillis (née Rogers) Chennells. He was baptised 28 November at St Peter’s. He was the fifth of their five sons.

In 1841 he was living with his brother Isaac and his family in Castle Street and working as a labourer. Later that year he married Elizabeth Green in Berkhamsted.

They were to have two daughters, but Elizabeth died in early 1849.

In late 1850 Adam married Mary Ann Mildmay and in 1851 they were living with his two daughters in Castle Street.

Mary and Adam had three children: Margaret (1852-1926), William (1854-1940) and Rosa (1857-1929).

In 1861 he was employed as a cowman and the family lived in the High Street and in 1871 they moved to 24, Highfield Road. He was then employed as a railway carter.

Adam died in August 1877 aged 57. His daughters Margaret and Rosa remained at the Highfield Road address for the rest of their lives. Rosa is buried in this cemetery in an unmarked grave.
