Alexander Lees

Unmarked grave Alexander Lees (1853-1921)

Alexander was born in 1853 in Ely, the son of James and Caroline (née Roots) Lees. His father, who had been born in Scotland, was a superintendent of police in the city.

Alexander trained as a cabinet maker and later became a painter and French polisher.

He married Florence Meade, born in Berkhamsted, in 1894 in Croydon, but they soon moved to Berkhamsted where their sons were born: Alexander George (1895), Frederick Wilfred (1896) and Cecil Andrew (1904).

In 1911 the family lived at 13b, Holiday Street but by 1921 had moved to 15, Holliday Street. Alexander died that July in West Herts hospital, aged 68.
