Alfred was born in 1881, the son of Fanny and John Final who lived at 2, Station Road. His father was a general labourer and Alfred was the fourth of their seven children.
Alfred became a road labourer and married Daisy Dealey in 1905. They were to have four daughters in the next four years: Edith (1903), Violet (1906), Ivy (1907) and Phyllis (1909).
The 1911 census records the Final family living in the same dwelling – 4, Water Lane – as Daisy’s parents and seven siblings: fifteen people in a six-roomed house.
By June 1921 the Finals were living at 20, Mill Street and baby Thomas had just been born.
Alfred died November 1936 aged 55 at 40, Castle Street. Daisy survived him until 1940 and is buried in this cemetery.
