ALICE BEATRICE COOK; 1860 – 1941

Alice Beatrice Cook, née Gilmore, was born 2nd April 1860 in Northchurch to John and Ann Gilmore. Her father was a wheelwright and by 1871 the family had moved to Bovingdon.  Alice had 5 siblings of which she was the youngest. Her father died in 1882 at the age of 70.

 Alice married Charlie Cook in Hemel Hempstead in 1888 when she was 28 and According to the 1911 census they had five children, one of whom had died. The four surviving children , all daughters were  Nellie, Amy Louisa, Phyllis Mary and Doris.

 At time the 1901 census was taken her husband, Charlie, was working as a coachman working in the stables at Ashlyns Hall, where they lived in the Lodge. The family were all still there in 1911. By 1939 her husband had retired and they had moved to Curtis Way, Berkhamsted. Nellie, their daughter, was still living with them. Alice died January 1941 when she was 80 and is buried in Rectory Lane.
