Unmarked grave Hannah Bedford (née Williamson) (1863-1940)
Hannah was born 18 April 1863 in Pitstone to Ruth, wife of carpenter Daniel Williamson.
In 1871 the family was still in Pitstone. Hannah had two older and three younger siblings. Her mother was a dressmaker.
In 1881 Hannah was with her parents and six younger siblings at Brook End, Pitstone. Hannah and her next youngest sister were straw plaiters.
By 1891 the family’s financial situation appears to have improved. Her father was the farmer of Bottom Farm, Northchurch. Hannah, aged 27, was at home at Bottom Farm with four of her younger siblings and none of them, although adult, needed to have an occupation.
Hannah married John Bedford, farmer of John’s Lane Farm, Ashley Green, Bucks in 1896 in the Amersham district. The farm still stands on the lane which is an exact extension from Cross Oak Road on the far side of the A41.
Albert was born in 1897. The couple were to have one other child, sadly dead by 1911when they were still living at John’s Lane Farm.
By 1921 Hannah had been widowed and was living at 47, High Street with her son Albert, a carter.
She is recorded in the 1939 Register living at 11, Woodlands Avenue with Albert, his wife Lily and their children. Albert was a road foreman employed by Herts CC.
Hannah died in June 1940 aged 77.
