Annie was born 23 April 1876 in Wheatley,a village about 5 miles west of Oxford. Her mother’s maiden name was Dickens but beyond that it has not been possible to trace details of her early life.
She married John Bruton, a carter, in Berkhamsted in 1901.
The 1911census recorded them living at 135 High Street, a home with four rooms. The couple had five children: William Charles (b.1903), Ellen Caroline (b.1904), twins Alice & Kate (b.1907) and Albert John (b.1908)
John died in 1933 and the 1939 Register places Annie at 55, Cross Oak Road where she was living with son Albert, an unmarried carpenter and joiner
Annie died 8 August 1947 at 57, Cross Oak Road.
