Plot 1050 Annie Sophia Groves (1865-1947)

Annie was born 15 April 1865, the daughter and oldest child of Ann (née Potton) and James Groves. She was baptised 8 May 1868 in St Peter’s with her half-brother George, the child of her father’s first wife.

It was to be a large family of 8 children of the marriage, all living to adulthood.

In 1881 at the age of 15 she was already employed as a “brush drawer” in a brush factory and living with the family in Victoria Road.

Annie never married, remained living with her parents and continued to work in the brush factory for most of her life. Her father died in 1903 and her mother in 1928 and are buried together in plot x198a.

The 1939 Register shows Annie as a boarder in the household of Dorothy and Walter Kingscombe at 2a, Highfield Road.

Annie died in 1947 aged 83.
