He was born in Dunmow Essex. In 1881 he was age 6 and living in Saffron Walden.
By 1901 he had married and was living with his wife Alice (also born in Dunmow, Essex) at Edmonton. His occupation was described as Labourer at ‘Electric Light’ He was 32, she was 31. They had three children Alice, age 6, Alf age 5, and Albert age 1 month (born Edmonton).
They must have come to Berkhamsted after that as when he died in 1905, his residence was given as Shrublands Avenue, Berkhamsted. His name on the register of death is Pilgrim. His name on the burial record is Pilgram.
In the 1911 census shows his widow Alice Pilgrim, age 38, born Saffron Walden, and a laundress is living at 21 Shrublands Avenue. Charles George Pilgrim their son age 4. An elder daughter Gladys Julia aged 11 was also born in Saffron Walden.
They must have come to Berkhamsted after 1901.
Interestingly, their son Charles C. Pilgrem b. 19th May 1906 is recorded as being the Cinema Electrical Engineer living in North road, Berkhamsted in 1939, with his father dying before he was born.
