Plot 900 Catherine Kent (1863-1941)

Catherine was born in 1863 in Ridge, probably at Tyttenhanger Lodge, Hertfordshire, the daughter of Jane and Henry Clark Kent.

Her father, a gardener, had been born in Brandon, Suffolk, and her mother in Bovingdon. In 1871 Catherine was living with her parents, her three brothers and older sister in Tyttenhanger Lodge. Her father was a gardener at Tyttenhanger House, a 17th century mansion owned by the Alexander family, the ancestors of Field Marshall Alexander who won fame in the North African arena in World War II and who eventually lived there.

The family was still at the Lodge in 1881. Catherine never married and remained living with her parents. By 1901 Henry had retired, but he, Jane and Catherine remained at the Lodge.

Her father died in February 1902 and the 1911 census records Catherine and her mother living with Catherine’s widowed sister Susan Wisdom, and her son and daughter, in Hammersmith.

Her mother died in 1912 and in 1921 Catherine was living with her nephew William Williams, a stockbroker’s clerk, and his family in Hammersmith.

It is not known when she moved to Berkhamsted where she died 17 January 1941 at 56, Meadow Road, aged 78.
