Biography:
Dolly Timson
Dolly Timson

“DOLLY” TIMSON; 1899 - 1904
Although named as Dolly on the kerbstone surrounding the grave in which she lies buried with her parents and older sister, Dolly, must have been a pet name by which she was known by her family. The name with which she was baptised on 21st May 1899 was in fact Caroline Agnes. She had been born in Berkhamsted in the second quarter of 1899 and was the fifth of eight children born to Arthur and Eliza Timson.
We can be sure that Dolly was indeed Caroline, as her memorial tells us that Dolly died at the age of 5 ½ years of age, which puts her date of death at some point in 1904. We know from Caroline’s death certificate that she died on 25th November 1904 at the age of 5. Further confirmation that Dolly was in fact Caroline comes from the fact that we know her parents had eight children. The 1911 census, taken after Caroline had died, notes that Eliza had given birth to eight children, only of whom one had died by 1911.
Her death certificate reveals that the cause of Dolly’s death was bronchitis. She died at home in the presence of her father Arthur. She was buried in Rectory lane Cemetery, to be joined later in the same grave by her parents and older sister Alice when they too died.
