EDITH MAUD NORWOOD (née Winfield) : 1895 - 1931
Edith Maud Winfield was born in Berkhamsted in October 1895 to George Winfield, a labourer, and his wife Elizabeth (née Noah). The family lived at 21 Victoria Road Berkhamsted and indeed Edith was to live her entire life at that address. Edith had eight siblings: Alfred, 1883: Ethel, 1890; William, 1891; Emily, 1894-1924; Stanley, 1900; Elsie Elizabeth, 1903; Dorothy May, 1906; and Horace Charles 1908-1922. Horace died when he was only 14 as did Elizabeth, their mother, died less than a year Horace died. She was 63 and had had her first child at the age of 16. Both she and Horace are buried in the family grave in Rectory Lane Cemetery.
Edith was christened 23rd October 1895 and at the age of 15 was working as a domestic servant.[1]
Edith married Fredrick Herbert Norwood on 24th September 1921. They lived with Edith’s parents at 21 Victoria Road. Edith gave birth to a daughter, Marjorie Kathleen, in 1927 but unfortunately Edith died only a few years later, on 28th April 1931. She was 35 years old and was buried in Rectory Lane Cemetery.
Fredrick married again. Edith’s daughter Marjorie only lived until she was 15 and she died 15th March 1943 in Hemel Hempstead hospital. She is buried was also buried in Rectory Lane Cemetery.
