When Elizabeth Catlin was born in 1835 in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, her father, George and mother, Ann, were both 29. She had two brothers and two sisters. She married Edward Birch in September 1872 in Amersham.  He was a wood turner. Elizabeth was recorded as a Straw Plaiter in 1881 Census.They had one child during their marriage. Rosa Minnie Birch born in Berkhamsted in 1874. (She married Albert Willmore in July 1897 in Berkhamsted and had 3 children. She died in 1946 aged 72 in Berkhamsted). Census records from 1871 - 1911 show Edward and Elizabeth living at Provident Place, Berkhamste, numbers 12, 13 and 158 during this time. Provident Place doesn’t exist anymore but neighbouring address recorded in Census is Holliday Street. New Provident Place exists just off Holliday Street today.
