Rectory Lane Cemetery, Berkhamsted

Biography:
Elizabeth Pope
1850 –1935

Unmarked grave Elizabeth Pope (1850-1935)

The 1911 census records Elizabeth as being the cook “in charge” at Nettleden House, Piper’s Hill, Nettleden. No other residents are given, so presumably the entire family of this substantial residence of fourteen rooms (now Listed) were away. Elizabeth is shown as married and as having had one child, still living. Her birthplace, in 1850, was Great Waltham, Essex.

It has not been possible to trace Elisabeth in any other census returns, including 1921. She died in April 1935 in the Union infirmary at 241a, High Street, aged 85.
