Elizabeth was born in Little Carlisle St Mary-le-Bone Middlesex 1835, where she was christened, to Benjamin and Sarah née Cannon Horwood. By 1841 the family had moved to Whitehill, Berkhamsted and her father worked as a labourer. In 1851 they were living in Castle Street. She had 10 siblings: Maria, born 1837; Martha, 1840; Anna, 1842; Sophy 1846; Lydia 1848; Charles, 1851; Henry, 1853; Walter, 1857; Anderson, 1864, and Arthur, 1868.
Elizabeth married George May in Berkhamsted in1856 but he died only 4 years later and was buried in Rectory Lane. She then married Charles Warren in April 1861. She worked as a laundress for the rest of her life. Her sister Lydia had had a son, Thomas, who lived with Elizabeth and Charles. The couple never had children of their own. Her final home was 13 Gossoms End where she died 24 December 1904 and was buried in Rectory Lane Cemetery.
