Unmarked grave Ellen Holliday (1856-1929)

Ellen was born in 1856 in Berkhamsted, the daughter of George and Rebecca (née Stevens) Holliday. Her father was a bricklayer. From at least 1861-91 they lived in the High Street next door to the Union workhouse.

Ellen never married and became a dressmaker.

Her mother died in May 1897 and lies in this cemetery.

The 1921 census records Ellen living with unmarried older sister Mary Ann at 8, Cross Street, St Albans , and describes her, in the language of the time as, “Cripple”.

Ellen died April 1929 at 2, River Terrace, Northchurch, aged 73.
