Emily Lay
1849 –1914

Unmarked grave Emily Lay (née Green) (1849-1914)

Emily was born in 1849 in Castle Street, Berkhamsted, the fourth child of James and Martha Green. Her father was a labourer.

By 1861 they had moved to Kings Hill and James was a gardener.

She married Arthur James Lay, a carpenter born in Northampton in 1876 in Berkhamsted but they appear to have moved to London as their daughters Ethel Mary (1884) and Gertrude Emily (1886) were both born in the St Pancras district.

Between at least 1901 and 1911 the family lived at 30, Cross Oak Road.

Emily died in October 1914 at 69, Cross Oak Road, aged 65.
