Unmarked grave Emma Julia Lenssen (née Seidle)

Emma was born 3 February1854 in London, the daughter of Ludwig Seidle, a licenced victualler.

In 1871 she was living with her uncle Andreas Seidle, also a licenced victualler born in Germany, in Long Acre, London.

A report in the Morning Post of a concert at St James’s hall (presumably in London) in June 1870 mentioned “some vocal pieces by Philippine and Julia Seidle.”

Emma married Julius Lenssen, a wine merchant born in Germany, on 20 September 1877 in Camberwell parish church.

In 1881 they were living in Camberwell with Carl Theodore (born 1879) and Adele (1881).

At the time of the 1901 census Emma was visiting her in-laws, Nazeby and Marie Cummings, with Adele. Emma was described in the census as “Operatic vocalist” and Adele as “Vocalist”.

It has not been discovered when Julius died but in Emma was 1911 living in Kingsdown, Deal, with Adele who had become a professional singer.

Emma died 21 February 1945 at 219, High Street, but her home address was 34, Brighton Road, Coulsden, Surrey (where she had been living since at least 1939 with Herbert & Adele Goodall, her son-in-law and daughter).
