Ernest was born 2 May 1878 to Henry Preston and Emily (née Wright) and baptised in St Peter’s 25 May 1879.
His father was a general labourer and 1881 the family lived at Middle Row, Kitsbury.
By 1921 Ernest was a green keeper at Berkhamsted golf course and lodging with his older brother James and his family at 71, Ellesmere Road.
The 1921 census records him lodging at 20, Kitsbury Road. He was a golf course groundsman.
In 1940 Ernest married widow Rachel Davis in Berkhamsted.
He died in 1947.
His brother James is buried in plot 578.
