Plot 885 Eveline Maskelyne Stiff (née Merriman) (1880-1927)
Eveline was born in 1880 in Barnes, the daughter of Septimus and Mary A (née Maskelyne) Merriman. Her father was an insurance underwriter and in 1881 they lived at “Glenthorn”, Putney. She had two older and one younger sister and a younger brother. The family employed a cook, parlour maid, housemaid, nurse and under nurse
The 1891 census showed them still at the same address and her father as the “Manager of an insurance company.” Eveline had another brother but, as all the children were now out of the nursery, the live-in domestic staff comprised a cook, a lady’s maid and a parlour maid.
2 April 1900 Eveline married William Frederick Stiff, a stoneware and terracotta manufacturer (or, simply “Gentleman” according to the marriage register.). They lived at first in Leatherhead where Eileen Agnes was born in 1903 and Eveline Betty in 1904. By 1911 they had moved to 200, Coombe Lane, Wimbledon.
In 1921 William was the managing director of an insecticide and soap company and they lived with their daughters, a cook and a parlour maid at 29, Claremont Road, Tunbridge Wells.
Eveline died 15 March 1927 at “Ivy Gates”, Cross Oak Road, Berkhamsted.
William survived her until 1961
