Frances was born 3 November 1872 in Northall, Edlesborough, Bucks, the oldest child of Rowland Janes, a gamekeeper, and his wife Sarah.
By 1891 her father had a position as under gamekeeper in Aldbury and the family had moved from Northall to Aldbury Lodge, Malting Lane, Aldbury. Frances was working as a needlewoman.
She married Stephen James Mansfield in Aldbury in early 1897. Fanny May was born in 1898 in Aldbury but by 1901 they were living in Lodge Cottages, Northchurch where Alice Elizabeth was born in 1902. James Frank followed in 1916.
By 1911 the family had moved to 33, Cross Oak Road and by 1921 to The Lodge, Berkhamsted Hill. Stephen was a gardener employed by a Mrs Dunn.
Stephen died in 13 June 1934 in West Herts Hospital aged 60, by which time they had moved to 87, Cross Oak Road.
In 1939 Frances was living at 87, Cross Oak Road with her unmarried son Frank, who was working as a gardener.
Her daughter, Fanny May, who had married Victor Cook, a timber carter, and who lived in Berkhamsted, died in 1955.
Frances died 15 May 1956.
