Unmarked grave Frances Mary Dell (née Stevens, late Pease) (1901-1942)

Frances Mary Stevens was born 18 September 1900 in Hendon, the daughter of Mary Frances Stevens, born in Devon. She had a sister Nellie Florence (1887) and brother William (1898), both born in London. Their father is unknown.

In 1901 Frances, aged 6 months, and William were recorded as “visitors” in the home of Walter Pease, a farrier, and his wife Sarah, at 148, Kilburn Park Road, London.

Sarah Pease died in 1905 and in 1906 Mary Frances married Walter, seventeen years her senior, in Hendon. Frances Mary took her step-father’s name.

Walter Pease died in 1909 and at the time of the 1921 census Frances was living with her mother, now Mary Frances Pease, widow, at 23, Clarendon Street, Paddington. Her mother was employed as a charwoman by a Bayswater photographer and Frances is shown as being a “photographer’s assistant (Out of work)” at the same company.

Frances married Stanley Dell, a lorry driver, on 29 September 1928 at St Peter’s, Paddington. She was 27 with no occupation given and was living at 21, Edbrooke Road, London. She named Walter Pease “farmer” as her father. Stanley, aged 24, was living at Coldharbour Cottages on Berkhamsted Common.

The couple moved to Berkhamsted and their first child Frederick Ernest, was born in 1929. Sadly he died aged only 2 on May 8 1933 at 3, Woodlands Avenue. He is buried here in an unmarked grave.

Geoffrey Stanley (d.1966) was born soon afterwards on 8 June that year and Roy Edward (d. 2005) on 18 March 1938.

In the 1939 register the family was living at 56 Victoria Road.

Frances died at the “Base hospital” (now West Herts), Hemel Hempstead aged 42 and was buried 27 Jan 1943.
