FRANCIS NATHANIEL ADAMS
Francis was baptised on the 2nd of March 1873, at Nazeing, Essex. He was the third of ten children born to Robert and Mary Ann Adams. The family were from Roydon and Nazeing (villages near Harlow), but moved to Hertingfordbury, near Hertford. Robert was a farmer and shepherd. He married Mary Ann Childs in Hoxton, London, in 1871.
By 1881 the family were living in Hertingfordbury, and it was at the parish church there, that Francis married Laura Sophia Thomas on 25th March 1903. The family lived initially in Hertford, where their first two children were born. In 1909 they had moved to Wheathampstead, and a year later they had moved again, this time to Hemel Hempstead, where they lived at the Police Station. Frank’s occupation may explain all the moves.
By 1939 Francis, widowed in 1944, and their younger children had moved to 53 High Street, Berkhamsted. Francis was a retired Police Constable, but had war duties as an Air Raid Warden. He died on the 9th of September 1949, and was buried in plot 1148 with Laura.
