Frederick Walter Ford

Unmarked grave Frederick Walter Ford (1902-1948)
Frederick was born 10 March 1902, the son of Frederick and Rose Ford. He was baptised at West Hyde, Rickmansworth 10 August that year.
By 1911 he had lost his father and his mother was working as a spinner in the Rickmansworth asbestos mills. This was a highly hazardous occupation at a time when the dangers from asbestos were not understood. Frederick and his two older sisters were both at school. The family lived at 20, Royal Exchange, West Hyde, a terrace of small cottages thought by villagers to have once been the royal stables for the king’s horses on the road to Windsor.
Rose married again, to Matthew Osborn, a farm labourer, and in 1921 Frederick was living with them, still at 20, Royal Exchange. He was working as a ploughman for the Gough brothers in Chalfont St Peter.
Frederick married Nellie Gwendoline Elsie Burgess in Berkhamsted 5 February 1923 and their son Kenneth was born in 1927.
In the 1939 Register they were living at 20, Ravens Lane and he was employed as a chauffeur/gardener.
Frederick died 1948 aged 46.
