George was born 6 March 1829 in Markyate Street, Bedfordshire, the son of Henry Edwards, a labourer, and Sarah Ebbithite (born in Piccotts End). He was baptized 25 June 1837 at Box Lane Independent Chapel, Hemel Hempstead, by which time his parents were living in Piccotts End.
In 1851 he was still living in the hamlet with his uncle Thomas Lovell and his family and was employed as an agricultural labourer.
On 25 December 1853 George married Helen (or Ellen) Simmonds in Hemel parish church. Their daughter Jane, their only child, was born in 1855 in Hemel Hempstead but Ellen died in 1857.
George remarried 17 Sep 1865 to Charlotte Attwood. He was described as of Great Gaddesden and a labourer.
In 1881 George was living in Tooting and employed as a labourer. The census returns show him as married, but only other person at that address was Sarah Wilson, his widowed mother (who had remarried in 1861).
George was widowed by 1901 by which time he was living with his daughter Jane and son-in-law Jesse Rose, a general labourer, at 32, Cross Oak Road. Aged 72, his occupation was given as “Day watchman on farm”.
George died 18 January 1903 aged 73 at 32, Cross Oak Road.
