Unmarked grave George Flint (1838-1906)

George was born in 1838 in Gossoms End, the son of Mary (née Potter) and William Flint, both from Berkhamsted. His father was a bricklayer, a trade he was to follow himself.

In 1851 the family, with George’s younger sister Emily and his maternal aunt, were still living in Gossoms End. His father was described as a journeyman bricklayer, despite being 38. Both Mary, her sister and 9 year-old Emily were straw plaiters, producing plait for the Dunstable and Luton hat industry, a common occupation of the women in low-income households. George was lucky enough to be attending school.

George began living with Annie Harding, born in Cambridgeshire, in about 1862. They eventually married in 1875 by which time they had five children - Rosa (1863), Horace (1865), Lily (1868), Flora (1870) and Lionel (1872). In 1871 they were living in the High Street.

Their last child, Eva M was born in 1877.

In 1881 they were living in Lower Kitsbury Road where George died in January 1906 aged 68.

Annie survived him until 1923 and is also buried in this cemetery.
