Plot 238 George Gravestock (1854-1896)

George was born in 1854 in Berkhamsted, the first child of  Benjamin, a labourer, and Lydia (née Waterton) Gravestock. The family lived in the High Street.

The 1871 census records both Benjamin and George working as garden labourers. 

George married Mary Ann Reading Wheeler in Northchurch, 3 October 1875 and they moved to Holliday Street. The couple were to have six daughters and a son.

In 1881 George was a brewer’s labourer.

George died 3 March 1896 in Kittsbury Road aged only 41. His daughter Lily passed away in 1901 and lies in this cemetery.

Mary Ann survived him until 1933 and is buried here with him.
