Harriet Matthews

Plot 188a Harriet Matthews (née Baker) (1818-1851)
Harriet was born in 1818, the daughter of Edward Baker. No other facts about her early life have been discovered.
She married James Matthews, a carpenter, in Northchurch 20 February 1847 and their daughter Emma was born in 1848.
Thomas was born in early 1851, but Harriet died in March that year, very likely in childbirth or as a result of complications following it. She was only 33.
The census for March 30 that year shows James with the baby and little Emma living in Castle Street. His unmarried sister Ann had moved in to act as housekeeper.
James lived until 1882 and is buried in Plot 18 with his second wife.
