Harry was born 19 March 1903 in Berkhamsted and named Henry Thomas, the fourth Henry Gent in a family of canal boat builders.
Harry, however did not follow his father, grandfather and great-grandfather into the boat building business but instead became a litho printer.
He was recorded in the 1921 census living with his parents in Ellesmere Road and as an “out of work litho printer” who had been employed by Coopers & Nephew.
In 1927 Harry married Ida Muriel Young, the daughter of a Berkhamsted butcher, Edwin Young and their son Peter was born in February 1929.
At the time of the 1939 Register living in Castle Street with his wife and son and his widowed father. In 1945 he was described in his father’s probate records as a band knife cutter with a clothing company.
Harry died 4 August 1966 and was buried here with his parents. Ida survived him until 1980.
