Horace was born 28 January 1879 in Berkhamsted to George and Annie (née Rance) Smith.
His father was a boot maker and in 1891 the family lived in Gravel Path.
Horace married Alice Annie Bryant in Berkhamsted in 1899.
Hilda Alice was born in Berkhamsted in 1900, followed by Edith Annie (1901 Hendon), Phyllis Mabel (1911 Fulham) and Eric Horace (1916 Berkhamsted).
By 1921 the family had moved to 35, Cross Oak Road where he was to remain for the rest of his life. He was a motor body builder employed by Hoods & Bodies Ltd, Harlesden.
Horace died 11 May 1949. Alice survived him until 1970 and is buried with him here.
