Biography:
James Brackley
1798 –29/01/1873

Plot 194 James Brackley

James was born in 1798, Ashley Green, Bucks, but his parentage has not yet been traced.

In 1871 he was living in Grubbs Lane (now Chesham Road), close to Ashlyns, and working as a domestic gardener. Living with him were his thirteen year old granddaughter Elizabeth Brackley and eighty year old sister-in-law Elizabeth Cooper.

He died 29 January 1873 and his will was proved in February 1873. In it he is described as “Gardener of Haresfoot”.  His son Moses Brackley, a woodman, of Berkhamsted, was named executor.

It may not be a coincidence that the son of Matthew Brackley, also buried in this plot, was called Moses. Possibly James and Matthew were brothers.

Bertie Brackley (1884-1912) born in Ashly Green and buried in this cemetery is likely to have been a relative
