Biography:
James Sharp (896)
25/01/1885 –04/12/1942

Plot 896 James Sharp (1885-1942)

James was born 25 January 1885 in Leighton Buzzard, Beds to Thomas and Eliza (née Guess) Sharp.

In 1901 the family lived at Breakspeare Road, Abbots Langley. His father was a railway plate layer and James was a labourer in a paper mill – probably John Dickinson’s at Apsley Mills.

He married Florence Bertha Timberlake in 1909 in Watford.

Florence Maud (1911) and Robert James (1913) were born in Abbots Langley, Alice Mary (1914) in Garston, Watford.

By June 1921 the family was living at 36, Highfield Road, Berkhamsted. James was employed as a bricklayer’s labourer for A Cole, Ltd, Builders, Luton.

Florence died 8 July 1932 aged 45 of cervical cancer at 34, Highfield Road, Berkhamsted and is buried in this cemetery.

The 1939 Register shows James married to Annie. Living with them was Ernest Palmer (born 1930). James’s occupation was “Public works contractor’s foreman.” It seems likely that Ernest was Annie’s son. No marriage has been discovered.

James died 4 December 1942, aged 56, at 34, Highfield Road.

Annie survived him until 1970 and is buried here with him.
