Unmarked grave James Wells Neville (1856-1931)

James was born in 1856 in Chartridge, near Chesham.

In 1871 he was employed as a plough boy by a local farmer and, along with an even younger plough boy, was living in the household.

James married Mary Dwight, eleven years his senior, in Chesham in 1876 and their only child, Joseph, was born in 1877.

In 1881 the family lived in Chartridge Road, Chesham and James was employed as an agricultural labourer.

They moved to Berkhamsted and in the 1891 and 1901 censuses were at 7, River Terrace, Northchurch. He was employed as a general labourer.

Mary died 1908 and in 1911 James was still at River Terrace, employed as a coal porter.

By 1921 he was living with his son Joseph, and daughter-in-law Louisa, at 14, Cross Oak Road. He was employed as a farm labourer for Thomas Ashby in Northchurch,

James died February 1931 at 14, Cross Oak Road, aged 75.

His son and daughter-in-law are buried in plot 609.
