Jane Emily Betts, née Preston, was born on 15th April 1876 in Berkhamsted to Henry and Emily Jane, née Wright. She was baptised 9th November 1879 in Berkhamsted.
In 1891 the family lived in Middle Road. Her mother had died in 1889. She had eight siblings, James, born in 1862; Frederick, 1864; John, 1867; Arthur, 1871; Thomas, 1874; Joseph, 1878; Louisa, 1880 and Ernest. Her father was a labourer.
In 1901 they were still living in Middle Road. Most of Jane’s siblings had left the family home. Her father, Henry, and her brother were working as nursery labourers Jane wasn’t herself working presumably kept house for the family.
Jane married Peter Betts on 25th December 1901 and she lived with her husband and father-in law-in Linslade, Bedfordshire. By 1939 Jane and Peter and moved to in Boxwell Road in her home town of Berkhamsted.
Jane and Peter had no children. Jane died in early 1943 just before her husband and she is buried in Rectory Lane Cemetery.
