Unmarked grave: Jane Pastfield Cox (née Kemp) (1896-1938)

Jane was born in 1896 in the St Pancras district of London, the oldest child of  Alfred William and May (née Digby) Kemp, both from Essex.

In 1914 Jane, unmarried, had a daughter, Hilda May Kemp.

At the time of the 1921 census Jane and Hilda May were living with her parents at Tring Station where her father was employed by the London & North Western Railway company as a “pumping engine man”. Her oldest brother, Walter, was a junior porter at the station and his younger brother worked at Southy’s Motors in Berkhamsted.

Jane married to Arthur J Cox in 1926 and the couple appear in the electoral roll for 1928 living at 3, Middle Road, Berkhamsted.

They had moved to 50, Victoria Road by the time of Jane’s death in September 1938 at the age of 42 in West Herts hospital. She was buried 29 September 1938.

Arthur remarried in 1939 to Elsie Dell. In the 1939 Resister they are living at the same address and Arthur was employed by the UDC as a labourer at the sewage works. His mother Isabela Cox, who is buried in this cemetery in an unmarked grave, was living with them.

Jane’s daughter Hilda May later married Charles Jellis, a family butcher in Pitstone and died in 1992
