Joanna Harvey (172) 1861

Plot 172 Joanna Harvey (née Puckridge) (1823-1861)
Joanna was born in 1823 at Draycot Farm, Wilcott, Wiltshire, the daughter of James Puckridge, ‘gentleman’ and farmer and his wife Joanna. She was baptised October 23 that year.
Her father was declared bankrupt in June 1830 and on 26 July 1830 sold all the livestock and farm equipment. The next year he had to sell the farm in order to pay his creditors.
Joanna married the Revd. Frederick Burn Harvey, a schoolmaster born in Middlesex, on July 8 1848 in Whitsbury, Wiltshire.
In 1849 Frederick was appointed “Second Master” at Berkhamsted School for Boys, a position he was to hold until 1869.
Their first child, Frederick B, was born in 1850. The 1851 census shows the little family living in one of the school boarding houses in Castle Street.
Seven children were to follow: Annie (1852), Treffey (1853), Franklin (1854), Bertha (1856), Sidney (1857), Charles Piggott (1859) and Percy (1861). It seems almost certain that Joanna died as a result of this last birth on 10 January 1861. She was aged 38 and had borne eight children in ten years.
Frederick re-married in 1864 and become Rector of Cheddington in 1869.
