Lily Gravestock
1884 –1901

Unmarked grave Lily Marion Gravestock (1884-1901)

Lily was born in 1884 and registered as Marion Lily, however she appears in all the other records as Lily. Her parents were Mary Ann (née Wheeler) and George Gravestock and her father was a brewer’s labourer. She was their fourth daughter and by 1891, when the family were living in Charles Street, she had two more younger sisters and a baby brother.

Lily went into domestic service and in March 1901 she was a housemaid, along with her elder sister Ellen, in the home of timber merchant John Burton and his family in Gravel Path.

Sadly, Lily died in November of that year at home in Charles Street, aged only 17.

Her parents are buried in plot 238.
