Unmarked grave Lizzie Barnes (née Willmore) (1865-1948)
Lizzie was born in Tring in 1865 to John and Elizabeth Willmore.
Her father was an engine driver, probably of some form of agricultural engine such as a stream plough or a threshing machine.
In 1871 she was living on Berkhamsted Common with her parents, six brothers and one sister.
Lizzie married William Barnes in Berkhamsted in 1887 and Grace was born in 1890.
At the time of the 1891 census the family lived in Holliday Street. William was a wood sawyer.
William Henry was born in 1894.
By 1901 they had moved to 19, Cross Oak Road where they remained until at least 1911. In that year William was still a wood sawyer. William jnr. was at home, employed as an apprentice boot maker. They also had a boarder, a fish salesman.
In 1921 the couple were at “Carpe Diem”, 8, Queens Road. William was employed by East’s, timber merchants. Grace, unmarried, was living at home and was employed as a domestic servant.
William died 9 July 1935 aged 70 at “Carpe Diem. He left £608 (Just under £40,000 in 2025)
Lizzie died in the third quarter of 1948 and is buried here with William.
