Lizzie was born in Berkhamsted 11 August 1875 to single mother Sophia Humphrey. She was baptised at St Peter’s 21 September 1878.
In 1881 she was living with her mother and her two sisters, Annie and Emily, in the house of her uncle George Humphries, a labourer, in the High Street.
In 1883 Sophia married John Kirby in Berkhamsted, but he died in 1887, leaving her with two very young sons. In 1901 she was living at 8, Red Lion Yard with the boys and Annie and Lizzie and working as a laundress.
Lizzie married Jesse Dealey, a bricklayer’s labourer, in 1901. Jesse was the son of Joseph and Martha Dealey who also lived in Red Lion Yard. (Joseph, died 1916, is buried in an unmarked grave in this cemetery.)
Lizzie and Jesse had four children who grew to adulthood: Winifred (1902), Florence (1903), Albert J J (1906) and Sydney W (1915). The 1911 census notes that 2 children had died.

1939 they were still at 7, Red Lion Yard, but Jesse, aged 59, was shown as “incapacitated”
Lizzie died February 1940 aged 64 in Red Lion Yard and was buried 7 February.
