Lucy was born in Berkhamsted in 1849 to George Pocock, a blacksmith, and his wife Sarah (née Foskett) and the family lived in New Road, Northchurch.
By 1861 the Pococks had moved to the High Street in Northchurch. The family would eventually number seven girls and two boys. In April 1871 Lucy, aged 22, was still at home with her parents and was employed as a straw plaiter.
On 5 July 1873 Lucy married Theophilus Gudgin, a brewery labourer, in St Mary’s, Northchurch and by 1881 they had settled in Raven’s Lane. The couple were not have any children.
By 1901 they had moved to 15, Raven’s Lane. Theophilus was still working at the age of 72 when he was a roadman for the UDC. He died in 1924 aged 77.
Lucy survived him until April 1934 when she passed away at 241a, High Street, the old workhouse infirmary.
