Plot 499 Margaret Emily King (1850-1928)

Margaret was born in 1850 in Berkhamsted to Amelia and William King. Her father was a coach painter and grocer.

Margaret never married and became a milliner and then a dress and mantle maker. At first she lived with her parents, then, by the 1901 census, she was living at 3, Gossoms End, a six-roomed house. She had a female lodger, a school teacher.

Margaret remained at number 3 until ill health or infirmity forced her to move to the Union workhouse infirmary at 241a High Street. This was not an indication of impoverishment, but the local medical inpatient facility for anyone unable to afford private care. She died there 5 February 1928, aged 78.

Her parents are buried in plot x36.
