Mary Ann Pipkin

Unmarked grave Mary Ann Pipkin (née Endersby) (1850-1934)
Mary Ann was born in 1850 in Berkhamsted to William and Ann (née Norwood) Endersby. Her father was a sawyer and in 1851 they were living in the High Street, Berkhamsted. They had a lodger, William Bartlett, a sawyer from Rickmansworth. After the death of William Endersby William Bartlett married Ann in 1862 and adopted Mary Ann as his daughter.
She was baptised 19 July 1870.
She appears on the 1871 census living with her mother and step-father in the High Street and was employed as a straw plaiter.
Her daughter, Annie Endersby, was born 1876 in Berkhamsted out of wedlock. Her father was unknown but Mary Ann married Thomas Pipkin in Hemel Hempstead 20 February 1881 in Boxmoor chapel.
In April 1881 Thomas, Mary Ann and Annie were living as boarders in the home of her mother and step-father in the High Street. Louisa was born later that year and Lizzie in 1883.
In 1891 Lizzie and Louisa and Mary Ann were still living with William and Ann Bartlett.
In January 1901 Louisa died aged 19 at 4, Provident Place. She is buried in this cemetery. By that year Thomas had become an undergardener, probably working for Lane’s Nurseries.
The 1911 census records the family still living in Provident Place and that Thomas was a farm labourer. He died in September 1925.
Mary Ann survived him until May 1934 when she died in the Union infirmary, aged 83.
