Plot 187: Mary Barton (1809-1896)
Mary was born in 1809 in Rugby. Her parents and the date of her Marriage to George Barton, an attorney, have not been traced.
In 1841 George and Mary were living in the High Street. In 1851, now widowed, she was residing with her mother-in-law, Esther Barton, at Edgerton Terrace, High Street.
Although Esther did not pass away until 1868, she was not living with Mary at the time of the 1861 census when Mary, described as “gentlewoman”, appears to be living alone with one female servant. In the 1871, 81 and 91 censuses she had moved to Chapel Street, still with her resident female servant.
Mary died 10th August 1896 and was buried here with her husband and mother-in-law.
