Mary E. Way (891)

Plot 891 Mary Elizabeth Way (née Stops) (1867-1933)
Mary was born in 1867 in Hammersmith to William and Mary Stops. Her father was a veterinary surgeon and they lived at 5, Clifton Road, Hammersmith. In 1871 she had five older brothers and one younger, and an older sister, Emily.
Mary married Herbert Orchard Way in 1885 in Kensington and in 1891 they were living at 69, Rednall Terrace, Hammersmith. Herbert was employed as a “hosiery assistant”, presumably in a shop. They were not to have any children.
Herbert died 11 October 1899 at 20, Great Church Lane, Hammersmith leaving £218 (about £22,500 in todays’ money) to Mary.
In 1901 she was living with her sister Emily and brother-in-law Daniel Newton at Butts Villas, Hanworth, Staines, Middlesex, but by 1911 she had moved to Cherry Tree Cottages, Cholesbury Bottom, Tring. Her now-widowed sister Emily Newton had moved to Berkhamsted.
In 1921 Mary was living alone at 54, High Street, Berkhamsted where she died 19 January 1933 aged 65.
Her sister Emily died in 1935 and is buried here with her.
