Mary Ann Keen
1865 –1929

MARY ANN KEEN: 1865 - 1929

Mary Ann Keen, née Brackley, was born in Berkhamsted in 1865 to Matthew Brackley, 22, and Fanny, née Honour, 23.  Mary’s father was a brewers help and they lived in the Lamb Public House on High Street.

Mary was christened 12 November 1865. She had a sister, Edith Sarah and brother Bertie Matthew. In 1881Mary was living with her Aunt Harriet Brackley and helping with the washing as a laundress. She married Matthew Keen, a local grocer in January 1890 and they lived in 27 Chesham Rd with her Aunt and siblings. By 1901 the siblings had left him and they had moved to 8 Chesham Rd they had no children. Harriet 8 Chesham Road; Mary and Matthew remained living there with Harriet.

Mary and Matthew had no children.

Harriet died in September 1906 and Mary and Matthew remained living at 8 Chesham Road. Matthew died in 1918 and Mary lived a further eleven years in the Chesham Road house and died aged 64 years in December 1929. Here burial was paid for by the parish.
