Unmarked grave Mary Law Strickland (née Davis) (1843-1913)
Mary was born in 1843 in Steeple Morden, Cambs. Her mother’s maiden name was given as Law on the birth registration. She was baptised in 1845, when only her mother, Ellen Davis, was mentioned in the baptismal record. It is unclear who her father was.
In 1861 she was a boarder with an Ashwell family and working as a straw plaiter.
Mary married George William Strickland in Ashwell in 1871 and in 1891 they lived in the High Street, Ashwell. George was a labourer.
Nellie S was born in 1879 and Kate in 1882.
In 1901 the family lived in Station Road, Ashwell. George was a gardener.
By 1911 Mary was a widow living with her granddaughter, aged 4, in Station Road, Ashwell. She worked as a laundress.
Mary died in 1913 at 30, Victoria Road, Berkhamsted.
