Mary Parkins
1788 –16/08/1872

Plot 190 Mary Parkins (née Garrett) (1788-1872)

Mary was born in Little Gaddesden in late 1788 to William and Mary (née Parkins) Garrett. She was baptised 13 January 1789.

On 15 October 1812, in Dunstable, she married John Parkins, originally from Sundon, Bedfordshire.  He was the first Sexton at the Cemetery.

William was born 1813, George Hall (1816), Elizabeth (1819) John (1821), Joseph (1826) and Sarah Jane in 1829. Sadly daughter Elizabeth died in 1834.

In 1841 Mary and John lived in Grubs Lane with son William, a stationer, his wife Ann and their children William and Ann.

In 1851 Mary and John were living in the High Street and had grandchildren Ann and George living with them.

John died in 1854 and in 1861 Mary was living in the High Street with one female servant. She is described in the census as “retired lady.”

In 1871 she was living alone except for a young female servant and was of “independent means”.

Mary died 16th August 1872, aged 83.
