Matilda was born in 19 January 1881 in Enstone, a small village four miles south-east of Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire. She was the eldest child of William John Davis, a farm foreman, and his wife Elizabeth (née Baylis).
In 1891 the family were living at Chalford, a hamlet between Edstone and Chipping Camden and Matilda had two brothers and two sisters.
It is not known how Matilda came to be in Berkhamsted, but in 1902 she married Charlie Bryant, a gardener, in the town and their daughter Beulah May was born here in 1908.
In 1911 the family were living at 49, Charles Street where they were recorded ten years later.
Charlie died in 1930 and lies in Plot 606.
In the 1939 Register Matilda and Beulah were living at 48, Charles Street, but Beulah died 25 October 1944 aged only 36.
Matilda died 17 March 1958 and mother and daughter are buried here together.
