Plot 907 Owen Simmonds (1877-1931)

Owen was born in 1877 in Berkhamsted, the son of stone mason Frederick Simmonds and his wife Emma.

In 1881 they lived in George Street, Northchurch.

Owen attended Berkhamsted and Northchurch National School and in Easter 1889 was awarded a Bourne Scholarship.

He was still living with his parents in 1891 in Highfield Road. He was employed as a grocer’s assistant.

By 1901, when they were living at 3, Park Street, he had become a house painter.

Owen married Emily Ethel Butler 18 April 1908 in Hemel Hempstead parish church and in 1911 they were living at 18, Bridge Street where they remained for the rest of Owen’s life. The couple do not appear to have had any children.

In June 1921 Owen was working for H & J Matthews, builders.

Owen died 4 December 1931 aged 53. Emily moved back to her home town of Hemel Hempstead.

Owen’s mother is also buried in this cemetery.
