Biography:
Peggy May Jones
d. 18/02/1920

Peggy May Jones – died 1920, aged 7 weeks

Peggy May Jones was born around New Year 1920. She was the daughter of Walter J. H. Jones and Elsie A. Tomblin, who had married in 1917.  Walter was a clerk, born in 1887, and Elsie was born in 1896 in Boxmoor, Hertfordshire - one of the fourteen children of William and Rosetta Tomblin.

Little Peggy became ill shortly after she was born. She passed away on 18th February, 1920  aged just seven weeks, at her maternal grandparents' home, 55 Charles Street, Berkhamsted.  Her death certificate gives the cause of death as ‘ Malnutrition and Gastritis’  It may be that there was a physical cause for the malnutrition, or perhaps Elsie had difficulty feeding her baby. In any event this led to the sad loss of their first child. Peggy was laid to rest in Rectory Lane Cemetery with her mother’s young sister who had died as a child.

Elsie and Walter appear to have moved away after the tragedy as they seem to have had two more daughters in the London area – Phyllis M., born in 1921 and Hazel D., born in 1924.  They eventually returned to the Hertfordshire area however, as they are listed in the 1939 Census as living in St. Albans.
