Born in July 1922 to Ida Marion Pearce (nee White) from Lincolnshire and Charles Pearce, a gas fitter from the Isle of Wight.  Their only child. By 1939 the family had moved to Shrublands Road in Berkhamsted where Charles continued to be a gas fitter.  The 1939 census gives Phyllis’ occupation as working in a stationary shop. She died  in 1944  (aged 22) and is buried with her mother who died five years later.
